Enhancing IP networks to support consecutive killer applications

Mr. Tadanobu OKADA has been a vice president, director of NTT Network Service Systems Laboratories since July 2001. His responsibility includes design of IP network architecture as well as optical network architecture, mainly up to layer three, focusing on core part of the network rather than access part. Also included are developments of network node and link systems of carrier class and evaluation of available products offered by various vendors. Mr. Okada joined NTT Laboratories in 1976. Since then he was involved in Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) system research and its international standardization, national standardization of PHS (Japanese portable phone/data system) interface, NS8000 digital switching systems development and its roll-out plan establishment, among others. Mr. Okada gained a master degree in mathematics from Tohoku University. He is a senior member of IEEE Communication Society, and a member of the Communication Society of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE) of Japan.

Jong Rak Lee was born in Korea in 1950. He received his B.S degree in electrical engineering dept. of Seoul National University, Seoul Korea, in 1974 and his M.S and Ph.D degree from the Electrical Engineering Dept. of KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology), in 1981 and 1985, respectively. In 1986 he joined Korea Telecom as a technical manager of KT R&D group and currently he is a vice-president and the head of Operations Support Systems Laboratory in KT. His research interest includes high-speed network, wireless access network technologies and management architecture for the next generation convergence networks.

Graham Chen (EPAC Technologies, Australia)
|
Dr. Graham Chen is an independent technical and business consultant helping companies with new product and business strategy including broadband management, wireless data applications, wireless location-based services and WLAN services. Prior to this, Graham was the Chief Technology Officer of CiTR. Graham had extensive software development, R&D management and business/technology consulting experience in telecommunications network and service management and distributed systems area. He was responsible for CiTR’s technology and product strategy and led CiTR’s Advanced Technology Development program. Graham worked on a large range of commercial product developments, software solutions and consulting projects for CiTR’s major clients. Prior to joining CiTR, Graham worked on various academic positions in British and Australian universities. Graham is an active member of international research community. He is a regular speaker and committee member in a number of leading international conferences in the telecommunication management area. He published widely in international technical journals and conferences including a book in the IEEE Network Management Series: “Integrated Telecommunication Management Solutions”. Graham received his PhD in Computer Science from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, U.K. in 1986, BSc degree in Computer Science from Nanjing University, China in 1982.

Keith Willetts is recognised as one of the world’s leading authorities on communications management. As co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the TeleManagement Forum, he has been the driving force behind its continuous evolution and Currently Managing Partner at Mandarin Associates Ltd. in the UK, he consults with companies on a wide variety of business development issues. He previously held executive positions at BT and TCSI. A regular presenter and writer, he co-authored the highly influential book, “The Lean Communications Provider”. His achievements have been internationally recognised, being honoured twice in the Communications Week “Top 25” awards for industry visionaries, the British Computer Society award and the BT Gold Medal.
